Important Announcement...

I just wanted to let all you wonderful Frugal Friends out there know that next week will be the final week for The Frugal Friends Blog.  I have given this much thought and consideration, and although I have went back and forth with the idea, feel like this is the thing for me to do.

As most of you know, The Frugal Friends Blog is ran basically by me.  Unfortunately, I am only one person (lol) and have been running very thin between blogging and my other obligations as a mother, wife, work, etc.  Also, over the past several weeks I have noticed a steady decrease in the traffic and lower level of  interaction/interest.  All of this combined has lead me to this decision.

This is not the end of The Frugal Friends!!!  I still plan to update the Facebook page with deals and money saving ideas and I also plan to continue teaching classes on how to shop smart.  The Frugal Friends will still go on, and I hope that you will still follow along on our Facebook Page!

Thanks to each and everyone who has read this blog, attended a class, left a comment, emailed a deal or referred us to your friends.  I am truly thankful to you all and hope to continue to bring you great ideas on saving money and living a Fabulous Frugal Life!

I'm BACK!!!!

WOW, The view doesn't get much better than this!!!  After a week off, a great trip to the beach with my family and the great fortune of seeing this view out my window every morning, I'm back home and ready to get back to posting great deals for you!!  Although, I must say (and who wouldn't) I do so wish I were still at the beach!!

Tips for Saving Money on Your Summer Vacation!

Thank goodness summer is almost here!!  I am so ready for the sunshine and the long warm days that the season brings and so ready for a VACATION!!  To me, vacations are a top priority.  I love to travel and see new places, spend uninterrupted time with my family and relax.  However, vacations can also be costly and with the price of gas these days...WOW!!

Here are a few tips when planning your family vacation to help keep that budget in check:

• Pack your own snacks.  If you stop to get a snack each time you fill up the tank or every time you stop for a bathroom break, you can spend a lot of money before you even make it to your destination.  For a family of four, 4 soft drinks, 4 snacks would average around $9-$10.  We have been getting great deals on candy, bottled water, and soft drinks for several weeks now.  By packing your own snacks, you can easily cut that down to $3-$4 for those same items. 
• Use all the samples you get throughout the year to pack for your toiletry bag.  I know I am always getting a free sample of shampoo or deodorant.  Take advantage of these freebies and save the money you would spend in the travel section of your local store.
• It pays to do your research before you make any reservations.  Check online prices as well as calling to check prices on your hotel, car, etc reservations.  I actually saved $70 by doing this last week!  The prices were different when I called vs. online.  Had I not know that, and brought it to their attention, I would have been charged over $70 more.
• If your travel dates are flexible, travel through the week.  Avoid peek price days of Friday and Saturday.  Plan to check in on Sunday and leave on Friday.  The rates are normally lower on those days.
• Check the travel sites like, Expedia, Orbitz, Southwestvacations.com, etc for package pricing.  Still, it is important to remember to price your vacation on your own to ensure that you are truly getting a good deal.
• Take advantage of discounts you may have through AAA, AARP, Insurance Companies, Credit Cards, etc.  It never hurts to ask if a merchant gives any discounts.
• Pick up coupon books at Welcome Centers and Hotel Lobbies.  You would be amazed at the savings you will find and sometimes FREEBIES.  I picked up a coupon out of a coupon book on a Southwest Airplane last year and scored myself 2 FREE Price Is Right Shirts!! :)  Sometimes, though, these coupons aren't all they seem. Make sure to read the fine print as to the extra fees that may apply if you use these.
• Consider a "Stay-cation".  We live in a great area for just this.  There are tons of things to do close to home that most of us have never taken the time to do. 
• Visit http://www.aaa.com/ for tips on saving money on gas by maintaining your car.  Also, remember to use your loyalty cards for discounts and perks each time you pull up to the pump.

Most importantly, spending time with your family is priceless. You don't have to travel far to spend quality time and make lasting memories.  Simply taking time to play, swim, camp, dig in the dirt or whatever allows you that special time with your family is what really matters.

A Little Spring Cleaning at The Frugal Friends!

I have been doing a little organizing and cleaning out and have decided that I will no longer be offering The Frugal Friends Starter Kits.  Not because I don't think they are great items to have, because I do.  In fact they are exactly the items that I use myself.  But do to the fact that when I order the bags and purchase the items to go inside, I must purchase a fairly large amount to get pricing that I feel allows me to offer them to you at a reasonable price.  I simply do not have the room to store all of these bags and their contents.  So with that being said, I have about 5 more complete kits available that I am offering at the "Class Discount" of $12 each.  These are normally $15 each when not purchased through a class.  I also have about 10 of the Take Along Coupon Organizers that are discounted to $2 each (reg. $3). 

If you are local to the area, I will try my best to meet you and drop these off to you. Girls' Day Out! Saturday, April 30!!!

If you're looking for a fun and FREE day for girl time and want to add a little shopping to the mix, then you will NOT want to miss Girls' Day Out!!  Girls' Day Out will be held on Saturday, April 30 at the Sloan Convention Center in Bowling Green from 10:00 am - 4:00 pm.  The cost is free to attend and lots of booths/vendors will be set up (over 40) selling their products or showing off their services.  Everything from make up and hair, to personalized items, decorations and jewelry.  Even The Frugal Friends will be there!  So be sure you stop by our booth and say hello!  For more info you can head over to the Girls' Day Out Facebook Page or the Girls' Day Out Blog.

Let's Use Our Frugal Shopping Skills for a Good Cause!

I have been contacted by a Frugal Friend in regards to the terrible tragedy that has occurred in our local community.  I am sure that most of you have heard on the news or read in the paper about the tragic death of pregnant mother, Jamie Stice.  If you have not, you can read about it here or here.  Tomorrow, she would have been celebrating with a baby shower for her new baby on the way.  A memorial Baby Shower is now planned and donations of baby items such as diapers, wipes, bottles, clothing are requested to help the family with the newborn's needs.  There is a drop off location in Rockfield listed on the Daily News Article or if you will let me know, I can get them to the contact I have and we will see that the family gets the items you wish to donate.
