I did this today at Kroger and it did work. When you buy 10 of the participating items of the Mega Event, the actual discount comes off the total of your trip, not off of each item. When they deduct the coupon amount for the FREE item, it is the price before the .50 discount comes off, thus the .99 value of the coupon. Also, keep in mind to get this deal, you MUST buy 10 participating items to get the $5.00 off at checkout.
*On a side note, I went to Kroger today and purchased 4 cans of Pedigree Dog Food, 4 Bags of Quaker Rice Snacks, and 2 Philly Cooking Cremes and only paid $1.90!! If you're a fan of the Rice Cake Snacks, they are on Mega Sale for .79 (after discount). I bought a couple bags on Monday and received a coupon at check out for $1.50 off 4 bags (final cost .42 per bag). Today, I used it and purchased 4 bags and got another for $2 off 5 bags! Makes for a great deal on those, so keep an eye out for coupons printing and the register!
